THE ARCHIMEDES PRINCIPLE
The Power of Multiplied Concentration
During Archimedes time, the Roman Legion soldiers were always trying to conquer the Greece's cities. They
would row up in their huge ships and unleash boat loads of Roman soldiers on the Greek Cities.
This was very annoying to the Greek's and especially to Archimedes because these battles interrupted his
train of thought. As a mathematician and inventor it was important for him to continue working on his ideas until they were concluded.
One day while studying a particular problem, Archimedes noticed that the sun's reflection coming from a
flat shiny shield felt much warmer than the sun's direct rays. Because of his background in Geometry he begin observing the laws of the incidence and reflection of parallel light.
After some experimentation he discovered that the reflection of parallel light off of multiple shiny
surfaces could be focused on to one spot, there by warming that focal point 100's of times. This multiplied focused power could possibly be used to defeat the Roman Army. He convinced the Greek Army
to give it a try.
When word of the approaching Roman ships was announced, a group of Greek soldiers gathered and began
polishing their shields. They completed their preparation just as the Roman ships were entering Greek waters.
The Greek soldiers lined up along the seashore. Archimedes commanded the action of the soldiers. They
positioned their shields so that the bright sun shined on them. Next, all together as one unit they focused the reflection of the sun onto the dry sails of the approaching Roman ship. Instantly the
sails burst into flames. These flames ignite the mast and soon the entire ship's deck was in flames.
The frightened and bewildered Roman soldiers begin leaping off the burning ships into the water, only to
discover that the weight of their weapons and armament made it impossible for them to swim. One by one they sank to the bottom of the sea.
To prove that this did not occur by chance, Archimedes instructed the soldiers to focus the power of the
sun onto another Roman ship and then another. Each time the multiplied focused energy fell upon the dried sails, the same fiery results occurred. The remaining Roman ships immediately retreated.
Triumphant, the Greek soldiers returned to their homes conquering heroes.
Now you sit for a minute and consider Archimedes Principle. The power of multiplied concentrated focus. How
could you use this power? Is there any use in your life where this principle could be applied? Can you think of a problem, or an idea, or a situation which might be solved if all involved
collectively concentrated their focus?
A group working together towards a common vision, using each individuals focused abilities towards it's
achievement is an unstoppable force. Accomplishment is a certainty. Can you imagine what would happen to your sales organization, your family life, your relationship if Archimedes Principle were
applied? This type of focused energy is the fuel that will allow you and yours to achieve uncommon results. Together everyone achieve more.
